Manifesto: Body As Medium

How well do you know the use of your body?

Consciously and unconsciously, the body is always responding to your surroundings, creating their own relationship to the space without us being aware of it. The body is not just an object but the means of communication. The human body has the ability to change the experience in the surrounding and many artists have used this aspect in their work.
Work exhibited.
Artwork allocation plan, in reference to the list of artefacts.
The whole exhibition started from Oskar Schlemmer’s Triadisches Ballet and went on to explore similar works that other artists has done and categorising them into three different elements - reshaping space, pushing boundary and the study of the body. As a whole, the exhibition aims to rely the message that humans are body subjects and our body is our medium for having the world.
Instead of using partitions, light are used to create shadows, creating the illusion of room in this open space and it also helps to divide the space.
The idea is to create a human narrative in this exhibition. Humans tends to perceive things differently as we are unique individuals. We each have a standpoint, an embodied subject position and that perception is intentional and active. The body is our medium and standpoint for perception. We should be aware of the use of our own body and the vast exploration it can be. With this idea in mind, the design that came out was one that depends on the visitors themselves.

The use of walls and partitions was refrain to provide a fluid space for multiple route that vary differently for every individual. This transparency allows visitors to have a complete glimpse of the whole exhibition, provoking their curiosity to draw closer. Using the combination of simple geometric forms and bare materials, it brings out the aesthetics of simplicity and create a visual consistency in the whole exhibition.
Artefacts are placed at the eye level, creating a consistent line of vision.
Artworks that are connected to one another are placed near one another for the visitors to make the connection themselves, creating a unique self-learning environment for everyone.
The curtains that surround the stage would change the colours along to the video that would be projected behind the stage - with the three main colours, creating an immersive atmosphere for the visitors.
The layout is arranged in a way that there would be a focus in each separate space in terms of scale. This is done so as to prevent scattered attention in the space.
The arrangement of the artefacts creates a dialogue with the space, signifying the spatial relationship with one another. Spatial scale are also used to invoke an immersive atmosphere for the visitors. Visitors also get to learn about the theme of the exhibition by physically interacting with the artefacts or sometimes, simply by observing what happens.
Different mixtures of mediums such as TV screens, projectors, statues, installations, paintings, photographs, is used to keep  the whole exhibition entertaining and interactive.
The dark rooms presents films, making it an immersive environment for the viewers in this pitch black room. The enclosed space also allows the visitors to have a different perception of the space, giving them a paramount impact and expression of the exhibits.
